Citing mounting tension among traders, officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have written to the Supreme Court-constituted Monitoring Committee requesting it to consider deferring the sealing drive set to start from November 1.

City traders have called for a three-day bandh starting October 30. “Many political parties and other apolitical organisations have supported the bandh call and have pledged support to the traders’ cause. The feedback we have received from various quarters, including agencies maintaining law and order, is that the situation is quite tense,” said MCD Director Information Deep Mathur.

The MCD, in its letter to the Monitoring Committee, has written that if it was to carry out the sealing drive in such a situation, it may cause a serious problem. “We have requested the committee to consider deferring the November 1 sealing drive. The fresh date can be decided after reviewing the situation and in consultation with law and order agencies,” he said.
