British newspaper The Daily Mail quoted Whitmarsh in an interview that had been conducted before last Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
McLaren had been rumoured to be pursuing a partnership with Honda that was rumoured to be interested in an F1 return in 2014 following the implementation of new engine regulations.
Mercedes-Benz has been supplying McLaren since 1995 and has won three drivers' titles and a constructors' title during that time.
