A group of MDMK activists set fire to an effigy of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi in Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar district, protesting the arrest of party General Secretary Vaiko.

Police said a group of MDMK cadres, led by town Secretary Murali, carried the effigy and set it on fire.

Police arrested six of them and are on the look out for four others.
On hearing the news, R T Thankamankani, son of former DMK MLA Thamaraikani and municipal councillor, carried an effigy of Vaiko and set it on fire near the bus stand in retaliation, police said.
