The situation took a dramatic turn with the medical examination of the girl revealing her to be aged between 18 and 19 years.

President-cum-nominated magistrate of child welfare committee (CWC) under the Juvenile Act, Dr Roli Singh has doubted the credibility of the medical examination done by only one doctor. She has directed the SSP and the chief medical officer to form a medical board for re-examination of the girl. The board will also have a social worker to look into the case. It may be noted that acting on a tip off, Singh and Rajiv Singh, Director of Shambhu Nath Singh Research Foundation, an NGO along with cops had raided the village Chahin in Sarnath on Thursday night and stopped the illegal marriage amidst protests.

So the brother Gyanchandra arranged for another groom, 28-year-old Prem, a widower. After their father Lalta Prasad’s death, Gyanchandra was entrusted with the responsibility of her marriage.
