Meghalaya government's response to the National Commission for Women (NCW) and its "inability" to provide complete information on various related sectors have irked the statutory body.

NCW member Nirmala Sitharaman, who met a group of senior bureaucrats of the state in Shillong on Saturday, said the response of the secretaries in dealing with a national commission could have been "better".
"Unfortunately, many secretaries were not present in the meeting, although the schedule of a meeting of officials under the stewardship of chief secretary was intimated to them well in advance. The NCW should have been treated and addressed in a better way," she said.
Sitharaman said the state government's stock reply of 'nothing's wrong here' was "not at all convincing." The NCW was very upset with the administration for providing "incomplete" information in spite of a questionnaire sent to it more than a month ago, she added.
