Meham doctor gets 7-year RI for rape

A local court on Friday awarded seven years' rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a doctor for raping a married woman in Meham of the district.

A local court on Friday awarded seven years' rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a doctor for raping a married woman in Meham of the district.

The convict, Dr Bhim Singh, 35, is a native of Farmana village near Meham. On July 13, 2010, a woman, 32, along with her husband visited Dr Singh's clinic in the village complaining of severe headache. The convict administered injections to the woman and subsequently she fell half unconscious. When her husband was away to for purchase medicines, the doctor committed the crime. He threatened the victim not to reveal the incident.

After reaching home, she told her husband about it. The matter was reported to the police the next day. The police had registered a case against Singh under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court of additional district judge Seema Singhal imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.
