The accused, however, claimed that they had gone to the money changer for exchange of dollars. The fight had ensued when the trader used abusive language against them, they said.

Davinder Pal Sood, owner of Sood Forex, said that he had just opened the office when the accused barged in and made him captive. He claimed that the armed men demanded Rs 2 crore from him.

“When my son noticed the commotion, he bolted the room from outside and raised an alarm at which people gathered and caught hold of them,” said Sood, who is admitted at the civil hospital. He alleged that the accused ransacked his office and beat him.

SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill, DSP(city) Digvijay Kapil and SHOs from various police stations immediately reached the spot with heavy force and arrested the men, who have been identified as Jagjit Singh of Beghampur Jandiala and Gurpreet Singh of Baghrian.

Sources added that the police were also verifying any hawala connection in the case.
