However on Monday, the day temperatures plunged considerably and importantly, the Meteorological Department said that during the next two days the mercury would drop further giving actual feel of winter.

However, after that the temperatures might soar slightly again as a western disturbance is again developing, director of Regional Meteorological Centre Dr D P Dubey said.

The minimum temperature in Ujjain plunged to nine degrees – the lowest in State. The temperature has dropped as the wind direction changed slightly and developed some northerly component and is pulling some cold wind from northern India. The northern India is experiencing cold wave at present. Also the moisture component of air over state has reduced considerably allowing the chill to be felt, Dr Dubey said.

In other parts of the State too, below-normal day temperatures were recorded. Indore recorded 24.9 degrees, Gwalior – 23.2 and Jabalpur – 27.4 degrees. The minimum temperatures on night intervening Sunday and Monday also dropped in parts of the State with Bhopal recording 13.7 degrees, three degrees above normal but about two to three degrees lesser than the minimum temperatures experienced during the last fortnight. Indore recorded 11.0, Gwalior – 15.0 and Jabalpur – 17.4 degrees.

As against this, during the last several days, quite high temperatures were recorded in the Capital. On December 4 – the day temperature in the capital soared to as high as 31.4 while the minimum temperature was recorded at a very warm 17.9, five degrees above normal.

On December 5 – the city recorded maximum of 30.6 and minimum of 15.9, on December 6 it recorded 30.6 and 15.8 while on December 7 - the day temperature in city was recorded at 30.4 (three degrees above normal) and minimum temperature was recorded at 15.2 (four degrees above normal). On December 8 – the temperatures were recorded at 29.6 and 16.0, on December 9 – 30.1 and 15.0, while on December 10 maximum temperature of 29.2 and minimum of 15.7 was recorded.
