Talking to the newsmen on the Harcourt Butler Technological Institute (HBTI) campus, here on Saturday, the minister said that the arrangement was an interim one to remove uncertainty from the minds of the students and the private college management and also ensure that students did not lose an year.

He said a case was pending in the high court and decision of the court was awaited.

He added that in a meeting, it was decided to regularize the admissions as per the principles laid down by the Supreme Court in a similar case last year. He said the decision of the government would benefit students who were spending sleepless nights regarding their uncertain future.

The minister said the government had allocated funds for setting up IT-based polytechnics at Azamgarh, Badaun, Jhansi and Bahraich.

Replying to a question, the minister said that all other existing polytechnics would be updated under the World Bank scheme of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme.
