The youth chief of Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) in Selangor, Shanker Raj Ayanger said the cooperation with
Selangor Welfare department would start next month.

He said representatives from Welfare Department would participate in programmes organised by the party's youth wing
at all 22 MIC divisions in Selangor to register the poor, especially Indians, adding that they had also identified
various forms of assistance available for the poor.

Shankar said MIC youth had recently registered some 800 individuals, mostly Indians, and the names had been submitted to the Welfare Department for further action in another state.

Shanker said apart from the Welfare Department, MIC Youth had also arranged meetings with the Human Resources Ministry
and other departments which had incentives, programmes and skills training to help the Indian community in Selangor.

Shankar said he had proposed that the $87, monthly allowance for the disabled be increased to at least $146,
especially in Selangor and the Federal Territory, as $87, was not sufficient to cover the cost of living in both these places.
