Tremors were felt in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, and surrounding areas at 11:01 am, seismological department spokesman Mukhtar Ahmed said.

The epicentre was located in the Chiltan mountains near Quetta, he said.

Quetta was devastated in a massive earthquake in 1935 that killed around 60,000 people.

Last October more than 73,000 people died when a giant 7.6-magnitude quake devastated northwestern Pakistan and Pak occupied Kashmir.
