The CBI’s chargesheet filed on Wednesday squared with the Madhya Pradesh government’s position that the death of IPS officer Narendra Kumar was not a result of anyone’s design and also ruled out the mining mafia’s role in the matter.
The agency said it was a case of “culpable homicide”, whose definition under Indian law includes types of killing that are not premeditated.
“Manoj Gurjar, driver of the vehicle, had nothing to do with any kind of mining mafia. He was taking the stones for his own personal use,” the CBI chargesheet said. Gurjar has been charged with culpable homicide and obstructing the work of a government official.
The CBI submitted the chargesheet before the court of judicial magistrate (I) Suman Srivastava in Indore. CBI prosecutor Ayaz Hussein Khan said it was “not an intentional murder” and non-political also.
He also said the incident had no connection with the mining mafia. The accused did not even possess driving licence when the death took place, he added. The next hearing in the case will be on June 11.
