Alert passengers and train staff helped control it immediately, railway sources said.

No one was injured.

The fire, which broke out following a short circuit in the AC connection, was immediately noticed by some passengers. When they informed the ticket collector, he stopped the train by pulling the chain, they said.

As soon as the train stopped, the passengers threw their luggage outside, the sources said, adding that the coach, which was carrying 67 passengers, got vacated within minutes.

The ticket collector disconnected the AC with the help of some passengers and doused the fire.

The train restarted after 20 minutes.

After reaching Ambala Cantonment railway station, it was thoroughly checked by railway staff before being allowed to depart for further journey.
