Former Union Minister Ram Niwas Mirdha has been appointed Chairperson of Sangeet Natak Akademi in place of renowned danseuse Sonal Mansingh.

Mirdha would take the charge later in the day, official sources said.

The change of guard in the Akademi takes place following controversy involving the style of functioning of Mansingh. A section of the office-bearers of the Akademi had complained to the Government in this regard.
