Put in by Delhi skipper, Mithun Manhas, the hosts began on a confident note with a century partnership between Chirag Pathak and Bhushan Chauhan. Delhi tasted their first success in the 31st over when left-arm spinner Vikas Mishra picked up Pathak (58) when he attempted a sweep but was caught at mid-wicket. His knock contained eight boundaries.

Saurashtra failed to take advantage of the good start and kept losing wickets in quick succession. Sitting pretty at 134/1 at tea, Saurashtra finished the day at 231/6 when play was stopped due to bad light.

Bhushan's was the second wicket to fall when he was caught by Mishra off Manoj Chauhan for 58.

Sitanshu Kotak (26) was surprised by a short delivery from seamer Pawan Suyal and could only manage to land the ball in the wicketkeeper's gloves. Cheteshwar Pujarawas caught behind for 19.
