The college was recently in the news for giving us our newest Miss India, Parvathi Omanakuttam, but a lesser-known fact is that it counts among its students five of the top ten Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) graduates from the University of Mumbai this year.

Mithibai College of Arts, Science and Commerce, which shares its Juhu campus with NM College and other institutions started and managed by the Shri Vile Parle Kelwani Mandal (SVKM), has upgraded both its infrastructure and course content so as to better its 2003 National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grade of B++ in 2010. Renovations are underway to equip all the classrooms with air-conditioners and LCD screens as well as to add more floors to the existing building.

Mithibai provides stream-specific enhancement programs like clinical research for science students, entrepreneurship for commerce and management students and filmmaking for arts students. The college has also implemented honours programs for all the four streams this year. Rather than simply supplementing the syllabi prescribed by the university, the program aims to give the students an edge by providing them with corporate training, industry expertise and soft skills.

The college has a reputation of producing Bollywood personalities. Kareena Kapoor, Ajay Devgan, and Bobby Deol are former students of Mithibai. “The good thing about the college is that extra-curricular activities are consciously encouraged,” said Chirag Sanghai, a third year BMS student.

Mithibai’s inter-collegiate festival Kshitij was restarted this December after a five-year hiatus and its turnout matched the total student strength at Mithibai: 10,000. There is also a grand talent show every year, which attracts a lot of junior college students. There are several associations within the college like the Film Society, Literature Club and Drama team.

The Rotaract Club of Mithibai College is one of the best-known college associations under the Rotaract Club of Mumbai. There are several eateries both inside and outside the college campus. The Café Coffee Day outlet in the college and Dheeraj’s vada pav stall and Ice ‘n’ Rolls outside, are popular with all the college students in the area.
