AFTER STABBING Pandhana MLA Kishorilal Verma and his wife Veena to death at Omkareshwar on Saturday, contractor Chandu told Khandwa police that he did so as he was not paid his dues and that the couple humiliated him.
“I was not paid my dues. As a result, I could not give wages to masons, nor I had anything for my family. To make things worse, they humiliated me which I could not bear,” he told the police, Khandwa SP K D Parashar said over the phone on Sunday.
Chandu, who was driver to 62-year-old former state education minister Verma till two years back, is alleged to be an alcoholic and is reeling under heavy debt. A month back, Veena picked up a heated argument with Chandu, a resident of Ahmadpur Khegaon, when he asked her for Rs 13,000. He demanded sanitary fittings from Verma who held them back on the ground of sub-standard construction at a mineral water factory at Korgala near Khandwa. Veena owned the factory under construction.
The couple arrived at Khedighat in Omkareshwar on Saturday morning for a dip in the Narmada where more than 50 people were taking bath on the occasion of ‘Kartik amavasya’. As they approached the river banks after visiting the ashram of their guru Vivekanand Puri, Chandu stabbed Verma with a 15-inch long knife in the stomach and the neck. He also attackd Veena the same way and both died on the spot.

{{/usCountry}}The accused attempted to escape after throwing the blade in the river. But people raised an alarm and he was caught near a hotel at the Mortaka bridge.
At the time of incident, Verma’s guard was on leave and the MLA had sent his driver to buy puja items. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan ordered an inquiry. He said rules for security guards would be made more stringent, a report from Bhopal said.
