In yet another incident of road rage in the city, an MNC manager was allegedly assaulted by unidentified persons on DND Flyway while he stopped his car at the toll plaza to pay the tax.
The incident took place on Wednesday evening when the victim, Kaushal Sheoran, was coming to Delhi along with his wife and three-year-old son in a Maruti Swift car.
"We were coming from Noida and stopped at one of the cash lanes of the DND toll bridge. After we made the payment, we were waiting for the balance. Suddenly, a well-built man came from behind and started abusing the cashier. He asked the cashier to clear the lane as there was a VIP in his car," said Kaushal.
"After that he came towards my car and starting abusing me. When I told him not to use abusive language, he started assaulting me," said Kaushal, who is in his early 30s.
According to the complainant, the man also misbehaved with the former’s wife.
"My three-year-old son started crying, so I closed the windows. The attacker, who came in an SUV, called his accomplices. Around five-six men came and started banging on our doors and windows. Meanwhile, the toll attendant opened the barrier and we sped away. We thought of alerting a PCR van which is usually station nearby. But we could not spot even a single one," explained Kaushal.
The victim said he later called the police and came back to the toll plaza to help nab the accused.
"But the goons had escaped by then. We asked for CCTV footage recorded in the cameras, but we were told the cameras were not working," he added. Kaushal filed a complaint at Sector 20 police station.
"We have asked for all the details from DND officials. They have given us the car numbers of a few cars. We will check these registration numbers with the RTO (regional transport office) to find out the identity of the owners," said Yogesh Singh, superintendent of police (city).
According to the victim, the goons came in two cars — a Fortuner a Santro car.
DND flyway officials claim there were no loopholes at their end, though the toll collector has confirmed the incident.
"The victim panicked and fled the spot. If he would have alerted our control room or a guard, we would have taken immediate action," said Anwar Abassi, spokesperson, DND Flyway.
The victim's father is an IAS officer in Chandigarh. "Though he returned in some time, the attackers had gone by then," he said.
"We have CCTV cameras in just TAG lanes. We have scanned all the CCTV footage, but this incident was not recorded. We will install HD cameras at cash lanes too," Anwar added.
