A MOTORBIKE race reportedly claimed the lives of two persons, including a High School student of Islamia College, on Sunday. The student, who was racing two others, lost control and hit a divider before coming in front of a tempo near Globe Park.
Mohammad Javed, 18, resident of Kasaibada, along with his friend Danish, 16, were riding a motorcycle (UP32 AG 7230) towards the CDRI when the accident occurred. While Javed was in the business of making readymade garments, Danish was a student of Islamia College.
Following the incident, several residents rushed to the KGMU’s Trauma Centre where doctors declared the two youths dead. After the bodies were brought to Kasaibada, the victim’s relatives and several other people blocked the busy Kasaibada-Ganeshganj route. They demanded compensation.
They claimed that the youths died due to the tempo driver’s carelessness. Several senior officials rushed to the spot to pacify the residents.
Wazirganj inspector Udairaj said police arrested tempo driver Sanjay Kumar Rawat, resident of Nishatganj. Sanjay told police the youths were racing along with two other bikers.
A case was registered against the tempo driver. “One doesn’t know who is correct. The tempo driver’s statement that the students were racing has been corroborated by a couple of eye witnesses. But, then they also say that the tempo driver too failed to control his vehicle. For the time being we have bought peace,” a cop said.
