A mock drill of medical services for Formula One race was conducted on Tuesday, with an air ambulance helicopter flying to Fortis Hospital from the venue to inspect the preparedness.
To provide timely medical aid to race drivers in the event of any mishap, organisers of the first Indian Grand Prix — Jaypee Sports International (JPSI) — had arranged medical facilities as per the guidelines of Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the international governing body of the races.
Two air ambulances will be stationed at the Buddh International Circuit where the F1 races are scheduled to be held from October 28 to 30. A medical centre having specialised operation theatres have been set up at the circuit site. Doctors and paramedical staff will be present round-the-clock at the circuit during the racing period.
Besides, two hospitals — Fortis Hospital , Noida and Apollo Hospital , Delhi – have been put on alert where specialised medical facilities have been arranged and special wards created for the race victims, if any.
“Today, the helicopter from the circuit landed at the helipad at our hospital, set up especially for the races. The mock drill was conducted to check the landing and take off in case a victim is to be brought here for medical treatment from the circuit,” said SS Sandhu, facility director, Fortis Hospital , Noida.
