A moderate earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted Bangladesh's southeastern Chittagong on Tuesday morning, the UNB news agency reported.

There was no report of casualties. The quake took place at 11.28 a.m. (5.28 GMT) and lasted 47 seconds, according to the meteorological office.

The distance of the epicenter of the quake was 456 km from the Chittagong Seismic Observatory.
