RSS leader Indresh Kumar said in an interview to CNN-IBN on Friday that if Atal Bihari Vajpayee can be compared to Mahatma Gandhi, Narendra Modi can be likened to Subhas Chandra Bose. “The two leaders are like two sides of the same coin as both adhere to the same ideology, are dedicated to the nation and want good governance,” he said.
Hitting out at people who call the RSS a communal organisation, Kumar described such people as “foolish”.
Admitting that the RSS was running the BJP campaign in Uttar Pradesh, Kumar said Amit Shah could well be the face of the campaign but it is the RSS that is working on the ground to ensure that voters make the “right choice”.
Kumar also answered questions relating to Modi’s estranged wife, saying “no parallels can be drawn in this matter by linking it to the controversy that has erupted over Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s personal life.”
“Modi’s decision to stay separately from his wife Yashodaben is a spiritual decision, like Lakshman and Urmila and Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Sarada,” he said.
Quizzed on senior BJP leader LK Advani’s opposition to Modi’s elevation as the party’s prime ministerial candidate, Kumar said the dispute was about the timing of the decision and that Advani was not against Modi’s elevation. “Advani is the one to have suggested that the elections must be fought under the leadership of Modi,” he said.
Concerning questions that the BJP’s election campaign has centred on Modi, Kumar said the decision in the matter had been taken democratically, recalling that the party had also decided to keep Vajpayee at the centre of the campaign in the past.
