The BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi has assets of more than Rs 1.5 crore, including a plot worth about Rs 1 crore in Gandhinagar which he bought at Rs 2.47 lakh.

The affidavit he submitted with his nomination papers in Vadodara on Wednesday showed that his other assets include cash in hand of Rs 29,700, bank deposits of about Rs 44 lakh, infrastructure bonds of Rs 20,000 and NSCs worth Rs 4.34 lakh.

He reported a Rs 4.54-lakh income for 2013, which is more than three times the amount —Rs 1.51 lakh —he declared while running for the Gujarat legislative assembly in 2012. He also possesses four gold rings weighing 45 gram and valued at Rs 1.35 lakh.

The Gujarat CM, however, has not provided details of assets owned by his wife Jasodaben, whose name he mentioned for the first time in the affidavit. Earlier, he used to leave the column blank. This time, however, he furnished the details of his marital status, following a Supreme Court ruling.

Mahila Congress chief and party spokesperson Shobha Oza also raked up the Snoopgate controversy to target Modi. “Modiji, on one hand, gets involved in incidents like the Snoopgate, in which surveillance is carried out on young women, while on the other hand, he does not fulfill the duties of a husband.”
