Modi, who cut a dapper figure in charcoal-coloured Nehru jacket, and the blue-suited Abe, fed the koi fish, or carp, a tradition thought to bring prosperity and good fortune.
Later, the Indian PM gifted Abe a selection of Swami Vivekananda’s work focused on Japan. The book, Swami Vivekananda and Japan, had been specially commissioned and brought from Kolkata.
He also gave Abe a copy of the Bhagavad Gita.
