In Aligarh, he reached out to the Muslims, saying the Congress, BSP and SP were treating them as mere vote bank and doing little for their welfare.

“What has the politics of vote bank given us in the past 60 years? People still do not have water to drink, no roofs over their head and no proper education for children,” the Gujarat CM said.

Holding out Gujarat as an example, he said: “Despite the gloomy picture presented about Muslims in Gujarat, they have the maximum per capita income in the country.”

Moving in to Hisar, where thousands turned up braving 41°C, Modi turned on the charm for his largely farmer audience.

“The Congress has failed to address farmer’s plight throughout its years in power. Atalji had decided to interlink rivers. Had it happened, your condition would have improved. Farmers would not have been at the mercy of droughts and floods.”

The crowd cheered. He had hit the right note.
