The easterlies that usually provide moisture to the monsoon winds from the Bay of Bengal have been replaced by westerlies. Owing to this change in the wind pattern, there has been little rain in the last few days.

"Presently, the monsoon is neither getting the desired moisture-feed nor any local system that can cause rainfall," said state met department director J.P. Gupta.

The situation is similar in most parts of the state. According to the met office, such weather would prevail in the state till Friday.

The arrival of monsoon in the state was delayed this year by about 15 days. It normally reaches Uttar Pradesh by June 15.

The delayed monsoon and severe heat conditions have become a cause of concern for farmers.

Paddy crops are the worst hit by the prevailing weather conditions as farmers in the state depend on farms being inundated by rain before they transplant paddy crops, officials said.
