A day after landing here, Monty Panesar, the first sikh to play for England, called up his grandparents here and asked them to pray for his success in the forthcoming series against India.
"Beeji (grandmother) pray to the Waheguru for my success," Monty told his grandparents on telephone from Mumbai.
The Sikh boy who cherished dreams of becoming a pilot in the country adopted by his parents will be a part of the English team which will play three Tests and seven One Day Internationals (ODIs) against India.
Both grandfather Hari Singh and his wife Manjit may not know much about cricket but they are elated over the selection of Monty in the English team.
"We are all the more happy that he will hopefully make his debut against the country of his ancestors," Hari Singh said.
"I want my grandson to perform well. It does not matter who wins," Mrs Kaur said while talking about grandson Madhusudan or Monty as he is fondly called by family and friends.
