Moral police strike again, Mangalore youth abused

In another attempt at moral policing in Mangalore, three young men abused a Muslim youth for chatting with two Hindu women at a fruit juice joint, reports BR Srikanth.

In another attempt at moral policing in Mangalore, three young men abused a Muslim youth on Wednesday night for chatting with two Hindu women at a fruit juice joint.

However, both the Sri Rama Sene and the Bajrang Dal have denied any involvement in the incident.

Aqeel Mohammed was abused for talking to Anushwitha and her friend Sushila. The three are employed in different private companies at the Balmatta area of Mangalore. And the parents of Aqeel and Anushwistha are colleagues in New Mangalore Port Trust.

Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Gopal Hosur, said, “Although Aqeel has not lodged any complaint, a mobile patrol reached the spot and recorded their statements. We have set up a team, led by an Additional Superintendent of Police, to track down those men.”

On February 6, some youth abused Shruthi, a pre-university student and daughter of C.H. Kunhambu, CPI(M) legislator of Manjeshwaram in Kerala, and her fellow passenger, Shabeeb, for talking to each other on a bus on the outskirts of Mangalore.
