District Superintendent of Police Bishnu Ram Medhi said that the militants exploded a powerful bomb on a pipeline deep inside the Rangoli Reserve Forest, besides bombing a gas pipeline running parallel to the crude oil line, causing a gas leak.

Senior police and OIL officials rushed to the area to repair the damage.

The ULFA had set off explosions at the main gate of the IOC's oil refinery in Guwahati on Friday.

A joint press statement issued to the local media by the ULFA and other underground outfits, Kamatapur Liberation Army (KLO), Tripura Peoples Democratic Front (TPDF) and Manipur Peoples Liberation Front (MPLF), called for boycott of Republic Day celebrations.
