Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd Director KP Maheshwari said they faced huge challenges, but in little over a year Mumbai will have a Metro it can be proud of.
By when will the project be ready?
We hope to complete all the civil work by November, after which tests and trial runs will begin. So, people will be able to see the Metro coaches from the roads below. However, commuters will be able to use the system by mid-2012.
The project was to have been completed in three years. Why was it delayed?
Working in congested areas was a challenge. It required a lot of utility shifting and we had very restricted work hours. Despite all this, we ensured that the work was not too delayed.
What were the hurdles?
Most of the difficult issues, such as clearance for the Andheri crossing, are sorted out. There are issues, including right of way at a 250-mt stretch, that we still have to tackle. Most of our stations are nearing completion, apart from the one at Subhas Nagar where haven’t yet got the land.
What can commuters expect?
A safe, comfortable and convenient ride. We have designed the system keeping commuters’ safety and comfort in mind. It will make Mumbai proud.
