Mother Teresa's birth centenary celebrations in Bangalore

The year-long celebrations to mark the birth centenary of Mother Teresa got off to a start in Bangalore with some schools announcing provision of free education, books and uniforms to needy children and school dropouts.

The year-long celebrations to mark the birth centenary of Mother Teresa got off to a start in Bangalore with some schools announcing provision of free education, books and uniforms to needy children and school dropouts.

At a function held in Bangalore on Thursday to mark her birth centenary, Benedict Balu, President of the Saint Dominic Savio School in Govindapura said that the school management along with Mother Teresa Children's Foundation (MTCF) took the decision to reach out to the children from the poorest strata of society irrespective of religion, caste or creed.

Hundreds of children and parents took an oath on the occasion to follow the ideals of Mother Teresa and to serve and help everyone in need.

"Mother Teresa spent every moment of her life caring for the downtrodden, the oppressed, hungry and the poorest of the poor. This is our humble contribution to continue the work of Mother and do our bit for the cause of humanity", Balu said.

An exhibition to showcase the life and ideals of Mother Teresa was also inagurated by by Sister Geneviev, former Principal of Mount Carmel College.
