Driver of a mini-truck laden with illegally mined stones tried to kill a tehsildar, who was chasing the truck in his official vehicle, in Sidhi district on Monday.
The incident occurred at Kubara village under Bahri police station which is about 32km from Sidhi district headquarters. The tehsildar, Ram Niwas Choudhary, has suffered serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at Sidhi district hospital. He is in a critical condition.
According to information, Choudhary was on an official visit to the area. When he reached near Bahri town, he spotted a mini-truck laden with stones. When he came out of his vehicle to check it, the driver of mini-truck fled with the vehicle.
Getting suspicious, Choudhary chased the mini-truck. At Kubara village, about 3km from Bahri town, Choudhary tried to stop the truck by overtaking it. However, the truck driver used emergency brakes and Choudhary's vehicle rammed into the truck from behind.
In the accident, the tehsildar fractured one hand and also suffered serious injuries on his head and face. The tehsildar's driver also sustained injuries. However, he was discharged after treatment.
The mini-truck driver, Annu Kol, fled from the spot after the accident, leaving the truck behind.
Police seized the truck and arrested Kol. Talking to the media, superintendent of police, Sidhi, Navneet Bhasin said, "We have registered a case and started investigation. The truck belonged to Anurag Dixit, a resident of Dadiya village. We have also detained the vehicle owner and both are being quizzed."
