'Mr Prime Minister will be eye-opener'

Evergreen octogenarian actor-filmmaker Dev Anand will releasehis film after showing it to the Prime Minister and President.

Evergreen octogenarian actor-filmmaker Dev Anand said on Monday that his latest film Mr Prime Minister will be an eye-opener to politicians.

Dev Anand who was the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony of the 36th IFFI which got underway here from Thursday, told reporters that he will release the film on December 30 with a world premier in Ahmedabad after showing it to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

"I have written to them four days ago and I am expecting a response after I reach Mumbai," he said.

Speaking about his latest film, Dev Anand said given his experience of 60 years as an actor-filmmaker and a politically aware artiste, he was the only person who could make a film on the current political scenario.

He said multi-party system had its adverse effects on the country's flourishing democracy. "A strong single party government can alone make the country progress," he said and added "vested interests" in the coalition system of politics prevented single party rule from emerging again.

"You must see my film for this," he added.

Dev Anand said he was confident that the film will not cause any controversy. "I am not speaking for or against anybody. I play a character who is the ideal Prime Minister for any democracy. It's a political satire," he added.

He also took a dig at the political system in Goa which he felt was "unstable" and "uncertain" referring to the speed with which governments have come and gone in the last decade and half. "Otherwise, the people here are calm and composed," he said and recalled his first visit to Goa after liberation.
