Noting peace was imperative for progress and prosperity in any region, patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, pledged his party would aggressively pursue its agenda to restore lasting and sustainable peace on the state's borders.
"I assure you the PDP will create a conducive atmosphere to enable farmers in the borders areas to cultivate their land without any fear of bullets or shelling", he said while addressing a public meeting in support of the PDP candidate for the Vijaypur assembly segment, Harmesh Singh Slathia, in Vijaypur.
"There's no reason to deprive farmers of their right to cultivate their land located near the border fencing", said Sayeed, referring to the hundreds of acres of uncultivated land belonging to poor farmers which lay close to the border. "We're committed to create an atmosphere of peace and tranquility on the state's borders so that residents of these areas can go about their agricultural activities without any fear. It's a historical fact that during the PDP government's tenure there was complete calm in the border areas," he added.
"The PDP, with just 16 MLAs, effectively demonstrated how to ensure peace and reconciliation during its term in office", he said. He recalled it was because of the PDP's "pro-peace agenda" that Atal Behari Vajpayee, the prime minister at that time, announced a ceasefire on the borders.

{{/usCountry}}Alluding to the recent incidents of violence on the border, Sayeed asserted the PDP had always stood for bringing about lasting peace and reconciliation in Jammu & Kashmir and lowering tensions on the borders. "Creation of economic opportunities for youngsters living in the border areas will be on top of the PDP's agenda in its election manifesto", he averred.
Expressing confidence the PDP would form the government on its own in Jammu & Kashmir, Sayeed said: "Change is imminent in the state and its residents are looking for an opportunity to give PDP a chance to form the next government. The writing on the wall is that the PDP will win the upcoming state assembly elections with a majority of votes."
