A day after he was sworn in as the Meghalaya Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma on Wednesday flew to New Delhi to finalise his council of ministers in consultation with the Congress high command.
The list will be ready by Friday, Sangma said, before leaving for New Delhi, amid reports that many Congress Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA) have been pressing for berths in the cabinet.
Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president Friday Lyngdoh accompanied Sangma. The duo are expected to meet senior All India Congress Committee leaders, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel.
Sangma was sworn in on Tuesday as the head of the state’s 22nd government after D D Lapang quit, following loss of ‘majority’ in the Congress Legislature Party to Sangma.
Sangma, the fourth Chief Minister in the same assembly in two years in Meghalaya, was administered the oath of office, along with three other MLAs, at a function at the Raj Bhavan, on the day he celebrated his 45th birthday.

{{/usCountry}}Along with Sangma, United Democratic Party leader, B M Lanong, was also sworn-in as Deputy Chief Minister while his party colleague J A Lyngdoh and Independent AT Mondol also took the oath of office and secrecy as ministers.
