On his way back, a large crowd comprising local SP leaders, mediapersons and residents assembled to meet him and the police had to escort him to his vehicle amid much jostling.

As Mulayam left, there was more chaos in store. The official car of the superintendent of police (rural area), who was responsible for his security, refused to start. The officer had to solicit help from locals to push it. But by the time the car started, Mulayam’s cavalcade had traveled quite a distance. "This is the state of police infrastructure in Noida and Greater Noida," quipped an SP leader.

Earlier, Mulayam kept mum on the shifting of a proposed airport from Jewar in Greater Noida to “somewhere between Agra and Mathura.” He, however, said, “All promises made in the party’s manifesto in the run-up to the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections will be fulfilled.”

The state government has scrapped the airport project at Jewar as the centre said no new airport could come up within an area of 150 km from the one in Delhi.
