The Samajwadi Party on Sunday declared that party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav’s youngest daughter-in-law, Aparna Yadav, will contest the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

Senior party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav said the ‘chhoti bahu’ of the family will be the Samajwadi Party candidate from the Lucknow Cantonment seat. Dimple Yadav, Mulayam’s elder daughter-in-law and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s wife, is already an MP from Kannauj.
Aparna had married Prateek Yadav at Mulayam’s ancestral village of Saifai, Etawah, in December 2011, shortly before the 2012 assembly elections.
While everybody from Mulayam to daughter-in-law Dimple, cousin Ramgopal Yadav, nephew Dharmendra Yadav and grand-nephew Tej Pratap Singh Yadav are MPs, his son Akhilesh and brother Shivpal are MLAs.
Aparna, a social worker, works for a women-empowerment NGO called B-Aware.
