Mumbai : Domino kidney transplants at 3 City hospitals

The city will witness the country’s first domino transplant on Tuesday, involving five recipients and donors.
The surgeries will be conducted across PD Hinduja Hospital in Mahim, Bombay Hospital in Marine Lines and Dr LH Hiranandan Hospital in Powai.
A team of 40 doctors will perform the kidney transplants simultaneously, giving a new lease of life to five end stage kidney failure patients.
“There are five families involved in the domino trans plant, of which four are from Mumbai and one is from Rajasthan.
Five patients of kid ney failure along with five o their relatives will participate in this chain-operation,” said Dr Sriranga Bichu nephroplogist at Bombay Hospital.
The doctors said all opera tions would be swap transplants where patient A’s relative wil donate a kidney to patient B whose relative will donate to patient C till the last patient’s relative will donate to patient A.
