Railways did everything to close in on a well-deserved victory but failed to land the killer blow. Rohit Sharma (31 not out) instead made the most of the two lives to anchor the tail and help Mumbai escape with a two-wicket win and grab five points.

The defending champions topped Group A with 11 points after three rounds, while Railways remained on two points.
But till Rohit pulled JP Yadav towards fine-leg to score the winning runs, the Mumbai camp was a bundle of nerves with the match turning on its head in the last one hour.

The hosts went into the 15 mandatory over needing just 36 runs to win with seven wickets in hands. With skipper Wasim Jaffer and Rohit at the crease, the target looked nothing but a cakewalk for the 39-time Ranji champions.

Brief Scores: Railways 201 and 269. Mumbai 219 and 252/8 (Rahane 94, Kukreja 54).
