Residents from the tony towers and high rises of South Mumbai to Bandra, Juhu, Versova and Lokhandwala, known for lower voter turnouts, saw healthy queues on Thursday morning.
At a polling booth on Peddar Road, South Mumbai residents were seen sweating it out in a queue to get a chance to vote. “Last time we were in and out in minutes,” said Monika Patel, 42. “This time it’s been a long wait.”
For Bandra’s Hill Road resident Ketty Mistry, 56, it was AAP candidate Phiroze Palkhiwala that pepped her up. “I made sure that my daughter who is a first time voter casts her vote,” said Mistry, a company secretary.
Industrialists and celebrities were also spotted coming in during the early part of the day. “I saw many youngsters happily waiting for their turn to vote. Today, I can say the country is in good hands,” said industrialist Swati Piramal.
Actor Vidya Balan, after voting at Chembur along with her parents and sister, said, “It is only when you get your finger inked that you can point fingers.”
Hiren Dand, 45, an investor, said he supported the BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi as the country needed someone good for business.
“We also need someone who can perform at the national level,” said Dand, a Kutchi resident from Mazgoan. “But if he fails to perform, we will vote him out in the next election.”

{{/usCountry}}Even parts of Mulund West, which include affluent voters from Yogi Hills and Swapna Nagari areas, saw considerably good voter turnout.
“I think it is high time that we participate in bringing a change by voting wisely,” said Ram Puri, 73, a businessman.
