After three weeks, the film has raked in nearly $3.64 million, overtaking SRK’s previous high of about $3.6 million for Om Shanti Om, which was released in 2007.

In a statement, the studio behind the film, Fox Searchlight also pointed out that My Name is Khan has also set a new record for director Karan Johar: “On February 22, after only 11 days of release, the film also became the highest grossing film ever for director Karan Johar beating the $3,275,444 of 2006’s Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, which starred Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta, and Abhishek Bachchan.”

However, even as SRK and Johar set new personal marks for MNIK, and the film continues to play in 119 theaters across North America, as its box office take has been flagging in the last couple of weeks, it doesn’t appear likely that it can overtake the record set this year by 3 Idiots for the highest-grossing Bollywood film ever in the US. That film has a cumulative of nearly $ 6.5 million.
