According to official sources, 12 kids died in two or three villages in Sikta block in West Champaran district due to the disease commonly referred as 'khasra' by local people.

Over a dozen children were suffering from the same disease in the villages.

"The fear of death had gripped the parents of children," local sources said.

Most of the children belonged to economically disadvantaged communities and no medical help was provided to them.
