Gustad and his assistants are charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder in this case.

The bail petitions came up for hearing on Monday before a sessions court, which deferred the matter until Tuesday to enable prosecution file its say.

Earlier, a magistrate had rejected twice the bail petitions of Gustad and his assistants Ashish Udeshi and Hadley D'Mello on the ground that their release at this juncture would hamper probe.

In a related development, principal judge RR Vachha rejected on June 19 the anticipatory bail plea of CG Ashokan, station master of Mahalaxmi railway station.

He is likely to be arrested on charges of failure to report Nadia's accident to police although he was on duty at the relevant time.
