A security guard and a cook were booked by the Nagpur police on Thursday for allegedly raping a minor girl with mental disabilities at a government-run hostel attached to a school for differently abled children.
According to the city police, the accused -- Kisan Bawne, a security guard, and Bharat Kambli, a cook at the residential school in the south-west part of the city -- allegedly raped the girl around five months ago at the hostel. Following this, she conceived a child.
The accused also took objectionable photographs of her and threatened to make them public if she revealed the crime to anybody, the police said. The 17-year-old girl, however, narrated the ordeal to her parents, after which they lodged a complaint with the Pratap Nagar police station on Thursday.
When contacted, BA Wani, district social welfare officer, who visited the school on Thursday morning, said 47 students, including girls, were staying at the school's hostel. The police have registered offences against the accused, but no one has been arrested so far.
Dr Asha Mirge, member of the state commission for women, expressed concern over the incident and demanded special security measures in all hostels for girls and women in the state. He demanded strict action against the accused and adequate compensation for the survivor from the government. Dr Mirge also spoke to the commissioner of the police about the case.
