Narmada-III tech bids of Rs 51 crore opened

The bids will now be forwarded to Bhopal for approval by the Project Director, Urban Water Supply and Environment Improvement Project (USWEIP) - the Rs 641.25 crore Asian Development Bank (ADB)-assisted programme of which Narmada-III forms the bulkiest chunk.

Once it gets the go-ahead from Bhopal, the Indore Project Implementation Unit (PIU) will evaluate the financial bids and submit them to the Mayor-in-Council (MiC) along with its recommendations.

Physical works will commence after the council endorses the bids. The entire process is expected to take roughly one month and, if all goes well, construction is likely to begin by mid-November.

A total of seven bids, including one joint venture, were submitted for constructing the filtration plant. “Among those who applied were some of the biggest names in the business including Envirocontrol (Surat), Kirloskar Industries (JV with Gharpure), Degremount (Gurgaon) and VA-Tech-Wabat (Chennai/New Delhi),” revealed Project Manager, PIU, Prabhash Sankhla.

It may be recalled that the PIU floated a notice inviting tenders (NIT) for a Rs 250 crore package for laying gravity, rising, raw water and clear water mains on October 7 and this, too, is likely to come up for technical scrutiny shortly.
