The NJPC authorities were operating only four of the six units of 250 mw each and all the six units have now been shut down.

The project supplies power to Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Delhi through northern grid; the shutdown has meant 30 million units of lost energy every day and loss of Rs seven crore everyday for the suppliers.

The director (operations) HK Sharma said the project was shut down as a precautionary measure to check silting of tunnels which could damage the heavy machinery.
