THE INDORE Municipal Corporation (IMC) Health Department is hard at work at Navlakha nullah, digging out mud to ensure that it doesn’t end up with any on its face.
Three Forkland machines, two JCBs and 12 dumpers have been deployed by the IMC and IDA at the nullah in a desperate bid to beat the June 15 deadline.
It may be recalled that PWD Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya had announced that the Navlakha nullah would be developed into a lake and boating facilities started therein by mid-June.
The declaration was greeted with derision from residents as well as mediapersons. Both pointed out that a similar scheme launched at Krishnapura Chhatri was yet to take off two years after it was begun despite Rs 5 crore having been spent. Anxious to avoid a repetition both the IMC Health Department and Indore Development Authority (IDA) are leaving no stone unturned to bring the Minister’s dream to fruition.
“Desilting is being carried out on a war footing and the mud dug up during the cleaning is being dumped at Kamla Nehru Zoo. Embankments on both sides of the nullah are being repaired and reinforced to ensure rainwater storage. Trees impeding the nullah flow have been felled, but these will soon be replaced by fresh saplings,” revealed Mayor-in-Council member in-charge of Health Department Rajendra Rathore.
