in BJP-ruled Gujarat, saying such "fanaticism and intolerance" in the name of development was unacceptable and NBA offered full support to the actor.

"These kind of intimidatory tactics are used by Gujarati politicians out of timidity and intolerance because they realised the civil society's strength and support to NBA, especially that of eminent persons joining us," it said in a statement here.

Describing the unofficial boycott as "fanaticism", it said "this ban is an unlawful action. Since the Censor Board has cleared the film, no political forum can go against it, and if it does, legal action may also be initiated."

Fanaa, which was released nationwide last Friday, remained off the theatres in Gujarat after hall owners in the state declined to screen the film fearing violence and protests by state Youth BJP which is angered by Khan's stand on the Narmada dam issue.

Supporting the actor, NBA said "we appreciate Aamir Khan's committed position on 'no displacement without rehabilitation' as non-negotiable and his readiness to bear the brunt."
