Addressing a press conference in Thane on Sunday, NCP city unit President and MLC Jitendra Avhad said there were several irregularities in the multi-crore projects being implemented by the TMC.

Citing an example, he said old stones were being used for the revamp of the picturesque Masunda lake in the heart of the city. However, the contractor given the task is charging the civic body cost of new stones which amounted to fraud.

Alleged fraud in TMC projects is leading to suspicion that the Sena was hand in gloves with the contractors, the NCP leader said.

Avhad said he would raise the issue with the Union Urban Development Ministry and demand immediate dissolution of the corporation.

Mayor Smita Indulkar, however, described the NCP's allegations as "wild" and said the Opposition was in habit of levelling baseless charges.
