Attaching special significance to the visit, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh set aside protocol and went to Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi to receive Koirala.

Singh and Koirala will hold talks on Wednesday on the entire gamut of bilateral relations in the backdrop of the recent landmark changes in Nepal like restoration of democracy and clipping of powers of King Gyanendra.

The Nepalese Prime Minister will call on President APJ Abdul Kalam and meet Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister Shivraj Patil.

India is likely to announce economic assistance for reconstruction of Nepal which is facing a financial crisis.

Security situation in Maoist violence-hit country will also come up for review amid indications that New Delhi will resume defence supplies to Kathmandu if it seeks these.

"I am very hopeful about the visit," he told reporters at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
